Three Cornerstone CUs Recognized in Tulsa World as 'Best in Tulsa'
Thursday, October 8, 2015 7:00 AM

Recently, Tulsa World ran its annual "Best in the World" survey, asking about 100,000 readers to vote in 130 categories for the best businesses in their community. In the financial section, three Cornerstone-affiliated credit unions topped the list.

In first place was TTCU The Credit Union, followed by two finalists, First Tulsa Federal Credit Union and Oklahoma Central Credit Union.

TTCU The Credit Union, which serves more than 120,000 members at its 16 branches, and has assets of $1.6 billion, said that delivering extraordinary service and earning members' trust are driving principles that help TTCU The Credit Union stand out as the best.

TTCU President Tim Lyons said, "We are in our 81st year of serving members in Northeastern Oklahoma, and [Tulsa World] consistently recognize TTCU as the Best in Tulsa simply because we stay true to our core values, particularly to our commitment to deliver extraordinary service and value. All of our strategic initiatives and product decisions flow through the filter of our core values."

First Tulsa Federal Credit Union Manager Karen Quin said this is the second year that First Tulsa has been among the top three credit unions to be voted “Best in The World."

"When we were named a finalist in 2014, we thought it must be a fluke (but a really nice one) because we are very small—only $11.5 million in assets and 1,800 members," said Quin. "To be mentioned again in 2015 was jaw-dropping."

Quin continued, "On second thought, maybe we shouldn’t be quite so surprised. We have been in business since 1973 (originally, Sooner Shell FCU), serving a small but loyal group of employees and retirees of Shell Oil Co and First Data Corp and their families—some of which have enrolled five generations of members. This recognition made the entire staff, individually and collectively, feel very proud that our members chose to honor us with their votes. To me, it’s like being nominated for an Academy Award. We try to treat people the way we would like to be treated by others, so it’s comforting to think that our members appreciate our style of doing business."

Oklahoma Central Credit Union, a financial institution with more than $500 million in assets, said that as a finalist in Tulsa World’s Best in the World 2015 contest, members of Oklahoma Central Credit Union sent a resounding message to the Tulsa community that they love their credit union.

“I’m thrilled, but not surprised, that our members came out in force to support Oklahoma Central,” said Oklahoma Central President and CEO Gina Wilson. “We love our members, and our members love us right back. Our members are our reason for being and we live this mantra every day. The Oklahoma Central staff works tirelessly to ensure members’ needs are met, whether it’s over the phone, in person at one of our nine branches or virtually, via our online banking channels. We treat them like family and support them through all of life’s ups and downs. Given today’s digital universe, personal relationships still win out.”

Oklahoma Central serves more than 36,000 members through more than 5,300 locations internationally via CO-OP Shared Branch and a network of nine branches throughout the Tulsa area.
