This Week in Washington
Tuesday, July 12, 2016 6:40 AM

Legislators are once again about to leave town. Chief Advocacy Officer Ryan Donovan said in his weekly update, "It is hard for me to remember the last time that Congress planned to be out of session for seven consecutive weeks. In fact, I am not certain it has happened in the 20 years I've been in Washington. But unless there is some sort of August surprise, that's what we expect Congress to do. When the chambers complete their business this week, they will be out of session until September 6."

Significantly for credit unions, today, CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle will testify before the full House Financial Services Committee in a hearing titled, "Making a Financial Choice: More Capital or More Government Control?"

Also today, the House Financial Services Committee's Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit will hold a hearing on online marketplace lending; and the House Energy and Commerce's Subcommittee on Communications and Technology will hold a hearing on FCC Oversight, about which CUNA will submit a letter for the record.
