This Week in Washington
Tuesday, October 27, 2015 6:35 AM

In addition to Wednesday's historic election of the next Speaker of the House, Congress is expected to consider H.R. 1090, the Retail Investor Protection Act, a short-term extension of the surface transportation authorization bill and legislation to raise the debt ceiling.

Credit Union National Association supports H.R. 1090, which would stop the Department of Labor from implementing its fiduciary proposal. CUNA has sent several comment letters to the Department of Labor in opposition to this proposal and encouraged Congress to consider this issue and move legislation:

CUNA will send a letter to the House of Representatives later this week encouraging passage of this legislation.

The Senate is expected to complete consideration of S. 754, the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA). In addition, the Senate may consider the short-term extension of the surface transportation authorization bill if the House completes action.

On Wednesday, the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit will hold a hearing on "The State of Rural Banking: Challenges and Consequences." Carrie Wood, president and CEO of Timberland FCU, will testify.
