Thank the House Ways and Means Committee
Thursday, March 13, 2014 6:50 AM

Today is “Thank You Thursday” and an opportunity to show our appreciation to Chairman Dave Camp and the Ways and Means Committee for excluding credit unions and nearly 100 million Americans from new taxes in their tax reform proposal. Chairman Camp and the committee rightly recognized the credit union difference—our unique structure and our guiding principle of "people helping people."

Why Thank You Thursday? Because immediately after our big win on tax reform, the American Banker Association and Independent Community Bankers of America issued a joint letter to Chairman Camp, urging him to reconsider taxing credit unions.

Rather than encouraging the bankers' tiresome defensive strategy or lashing out and initiating another defensive move when none is necessary, the Cornerstone Credit Union League is encouraging credit unions to participate in the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) “Thank You Thursday.” Much like the highly successful "Don't Tax Tuesday" campaign, "Thank You Thursday" is a grassroots social media effort focused on tweeting members of Congress.

Credit union staff, volunteers and members can participate by Tweeting Congress. Visit www.DontTaxMyCreditUnion.org to access pre-drafted tweets, and the handles of Chairman Camp, Ranking Member Sandy Levin, and a third handle that will rotate through the names of the other members of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Tweets can also be sent independently. Following are the Twitter handles for Chairman Dave Camp and Ranking Member Sandy Levin, along with Ways and Means Committee members from the Cornerstone region:
