TFCU Donation

What started as an internal book drive hosted by the El Paso Area Teachers Federal Credit Union (TFCU) young professionals turned into an inter-department competition to collect the most books at TFCU. In less than three weeks, the 215 employees at TFCU donated 6,690 books for the young patients at El Paso Children’s Hospital and University Medical Center.

The young professionals who organized the drive hoped the books donated would allow the children going through a difficult time to experience the small joy of escaping into their imagination through the power of storytelling. The initial goal was to collect 1,000 books between March 6 and March 24, 2017, throughout the eight TFCU branches. Reality exceeded expectations with a grand total 6,690 donated books.

“Our team has the reputation of going the extra mile when it comes to customer service; it doesn’t surprise me that the TFCU team has the same mindset when it comes to giving back to our community,” said Max Villaronga, CEO and president of TFCU.

The team behind TFCU proved that not only are they hard workers, but extremely giving by averaging a donation of 31 books per employee. Team member Maria Aldridge organized a pancake fundraiser in her free time to purchase books. Some of her fellow employees reached out to educators from Bel Air High School and Lee Elementary for gently used books. Mrs. Berry, a long-standing TFCU member and Sageland Elementary teacher, donated 1,200 books to the cause.

“We’re very grateful [to] TFCU for their incredible donation of 6,690 books to the hospital," said Carolyn Williams, volunteer corps program manager of El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation. "It means a lot for every patient that comes in here. Books provide a great way of bringing a smile to their face."

With more than 80 years in El Paso, TFCU has a strong history of supporting community efforts that allow the Sun City to grow. This latest community service project reflects the TFCU culture of working together to enrich the lives of El Pasoans.

The mission of TFCU is to be El Paso’s premier financial institution through trust, education, and excellent member service stimulating personal enrichment and community economic development. For more information, please visit
