Texas Workforce CEO Mary Dunagan Wins Small Achievers Award

During the 2016 Annual Meeting, Cornerstone Credit Union League held a special awards dinner for the many deserving credit union professionals in the region. Winner of the Small Achievers Award, serving credit unions with less than $50 million in assets, is Mary Dunagan, president of Texas Workforce Credit Union in San Antonio, Texas.

In 1998, when Dunagan became CEO of Texas Workforce, the credit union had 1.5 million in assets and 475 members. Today the credit union has more than 10.4 million in assets and 1,250 members. In addition, she started share draft accounts, certificates of deposit, internet services, mobile banking, and many other services for the credit union's members.

The credit union has belonged to the Alamo Chapter since its inception, and Dunagan has been an active member. She was elected to its board in 2003 and has served terms as treasurer, publicity chair, vice president, and president. After 10 years on the board, Dunagan is still active on the Scholarship Committee and Nominating Committee.

Dunagan has been active with the Small Credit Union Committee since 2006 and also serves as the small credit union representative for the Cornerstone Credit Union League. Her credit union has hosted the Sicredi representatives from Brazil for two years in a row. In 2015, they hosted all 12 in a single day.

Texas Workforce Credit Union is active with payroll deduction for PAC, has attended Hike the Hills in Texas and Washington, DC, participates in Project Zip Code and CU:ROAR, and has key contacts.

Dunagan has been very active outside of credit unions as well. She served on the Lackland Air Force Base Community Council since 1999 and as civilian co-chair since 2009. Dunagan is active with the Ladies Oriental Shrine raising funds for the Shrine Hospitals around the country, where she is also a past president and past treasurer. Dunagan is also the current treasurer for the St. Vincent de Paul Friendship House, which provides clothing, food, and monetary assistance to the less fortunate.

Among her awards, Dunagan was honored with the Customer Service Achievement Award by Citicorp in 1988. Lackland Air Force Base awarded her a Certificate of Meritorious Service for her work with the Lackland AFB Community Council. Dunagan served on the User Advisory Board for Worldwide Interactive for more than 10 years.

Dunagan attended Southwest CUNA Management School and graduated in 2009.

The Small Achievers Award recognizes the exemplary efforts of credit union professionals dedicated to serving credit unions under $50 million in assets, and Mary Dunagan has excelled in those endeavors.
