Texas Senate Special Election Results
Thursday, December 13, 2018 7:00 AM

Representative Carol Alvarado has a narrow lead in the race to succeed ex-state Senator Sylvia Garcia.  Garcia was elected to Congress in the November general election and resigned her seat in Senate District 6 in Houston. In unofficial results, Alvarado won 50.4% of the vote in a field of four candidates, including her fellow House member, Democrat Ana Hernandez, with 24.3% of the vote, and Republican Martha Fierro with 23.2% of the vote.  A 50% majority is required to avoid a runoff.

If confirmed, Alvarado will finish Sen. Garcia’s term which ends in January 2021.  A special election would be held to replace her in House District 145.

Election results can be found on the here.
