Texas Senate District 13 in Houston Ballot Replacement Selected
Tuesday, July 19, 2016 7:00 AM

Texas Rep. Borris Miles has won the Democratic nomination to replace Sen. Rodney Ellis on the November ballot for the Houston area, Senate District 13 seat. Senator Ellis recently became the nominee for a seat on the Harris County Commissioner’s Court; therefore, he will have to withdraw from the ballot for the senate seat in the fall general election.

With 49 votes, Miles was chosen by the precinct chairs in the senate district. Unopposed in the general elections, he is expected to be the next senator from the district. Rep. Senfronia Thompson came in second with 30 votes, and former City Controller Ron Green received 4 votes.

With Miles' win, precinct chairs in his district will have to convene before the end of August to nominate his replacement candidate in the House.
