Texas House Committee Hears Gun Bills
Monday, April 17, 2017 6:40 AM

HB 899 by Rep. Poncho Nevarez (D-Eagle Pass) calls for smaller and simpler signs required to prohibit open and concealed carry.

Currently, Texas law requires businesses to post signs to prohibit either open or concealed carry of guns on the premises. Some businesses find it difficult to be in compliance with the size requirements due to the relative size of their entry space. This bill would simplify the signage, allowing pictograms of a gun with a red circle and diagonal line through it and simple language. The signs must be readable and no larger than a letter size piece of paper.

HB 3922 Lynn Stucky (R-Sanger) allows active judicial officers who are licensed to carry a handgun to do so in public places, even those that prohibit guns. Such individuals are often the subject of violent threats and need the ability to protect themselves and their families in public.

The bills were left pending.
