Texas House Bill Seeks to Limit Use of Credit Reports by Employers
Tuesday, March 14, 2017 6:55 AM

The House Business and Industry Committee heard HB 317 by Rep. Terry Canales (D-Hidalgo) on Monday. The bill, as filed, prohibits most employers from using credit reports as a condition of employment. Proponents of the bill suggest that many credit reports are incorrect and unfairly affect an applicant’s employment opportunities.

Rep. Canales testified that a committee substitute is being prepared that will exempt financial institutions. The bill was left pending, awaiting the committee substitute.
