Texas House Approves Bill Requiring DMV to Provide Electronic Forms
Tuesday, May 23, 2017 7:00 AM

The Texas House has approved the Senate bill that will require the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to provide electronic forms for odometer readings, a secure power of attorney form, and a secure reassignment form for licensed motor vehicle dealers.

SB 1062 by Sen. Charles Perry (R-Lubbock)/Rep. Charles Dean (R-Longview) benefits credit unions by permitting the use of electronic power-of-attorney (POA) forms tied to odometer disclosure requirements. Currently, the law does not address electronic forms. This bill would address issues that developed when DMV rolled out the controlled document power of attorney.

The Texas Credit Union Association supported the Senate and House bills.

SB 1062 passed both the Senate and House on unanimous votes. The bill now goes to the governor’s desk.
