Texas Credit Unions Respond to Oklahoma Tornado Disaster
Friday, May 31, 2013 6:30 PM

More than $26,000 in disaster relief funds have been sent to the Oklahoma Credit Union Foundation as a result of Texas credit unions and employees, including the Texas Credit Union Foundation, raising funds through various means to help industry colleagues following the devastating tornado in Moore, Okla. Additionally, the Oklahoma Foundation has received support from various foundations, credit unions and vendors across the country.

More than 71 credit union employees from eight credit unions in Oklahoma were impacted as a result of the destruction. The rallying of efforts and raising of funds to assist has already made an impact; however, Courtney Moran, Texas Credit Union Foundation executive director, says those affected remain in the beginning stages of recovery.

“As needs continue to be assessed, we expect the need to be even greater than today,” Moran said. “We’re not surprised that credit union employees in Texas and across the country have stepped up to help. It’s a continuing reminder of the philosophy of those working in the credit union industry – people helping people.”
