Monday, September 26, 2016 6:50 AM

The Texas Credit Union Department delivered the heartbreaking news of the passing of former Deputy Commissioner Robert N. Baxter II. Robert was the deputy commissioner for TCUD until he retired a few months ago. He was 57 years old.

"Robert passed away on August 31, 2016, after a spirited battle with cancer," said TCUD in an announcement. "His death is a great loss for those of us who counted him as a dedicated and loyal colleague, mentor, and friend. Robert was an extraordinary person. We will miss him deeply and his spirit will forever live in the operations of the Department."

Cornerstone Director of Compliance Barri Hamilton had known Robert for many years. "I was shocked and so sad to hear that Robert Baxter passed away," Hamilton said. "He helped hundreds of credit unions over the years through Information Central and probably never even realized it. Credit unions will really miss Robert's vast knowledge and dedication to our industry. Me? I will miss his friendship that grew over the years, while we were helping credit unions."

Cornerstone Credit Union League extends its deepest condolences to Robert's friends, family, and coworkers.
