Telco Plus Gifts for Soldiers

During the month of November, Telco Plus Credit Union is collecting items and raising money for Gifts for Soldiers with Operation Gratitude. In showing their support for all military, Telco Plus will make a $5 donation to Operation Gratitude for each new member that joins the credit union.

Telco coordinators have collaborated with three local high schools to include Christmas cards and thank-you notes with the items they collect. They note for the public that items needed for the care packages are scarves, hats, survival paracord bracelets, dark-colored socks, and nonperishable snacks.

“We really like what Operation Gratitude is doing, and we want to help them meet their goal of 2 million gifts,” said Telco Plus CEO Betty DeWeese.

Last year, Telco Plus let the staff vote on which charities they would like to support during the holiday season, and the overwhelming response was for the soldiers, and this directly contributed to the success of the program—plus, a few friendly days of competition. Telco Plus Gifts for SoldiersThe credit union staff and members raised $1,980 and collected refillable water bottles, survival bracelets, some socks, and over 100 thank-you letters written by Kilgore High School students.

This year, Telco Plus is hoping to receive more items like handcrafted scarves, hats, and survival paracord bracelets, and to raise over $2,000 for Operation Gratitude to send the soldiers.

For the packages to arrive at their destination by Christmas, the credit union must receive all donated items by Nov. 27; however, they are selling $5 Camo Christmas Trees all month.
