TCUL Pleased House Passes Privacy Notice Bill
Wednesday, March 13, 2013 6:00 AM

The Texas Credit Union League (TCUL) is pleased that with little opposition, the House approved H.R. 749, which would eliminate the requirement for credit unions to mail annual privacy notices to members unless policies are changed.

“Only two weeks ago, during the Governmental Affairs Conference, credit unions were urging lawmakers to vote for the bill,” recalls Tom Haider, TCUL executive vice president and chief advocacy officer.  “Under HR 749, the notice is only required to be sent if a credit union changes its privacy policy. This bill, if enacted, will save credit unions money and eliminate confusion for members who receive the notice.”

TCUL will be lobbying Texas’ two U.S. Senators to co- sponsor the bill in the Senate and push that legislative body to pass the bill.
