TCCU Donates Coats to Children of McDonald Southeast YMCA
Wednesday, January 10, 2018 6:50 AM

TCCU staff and members collected and donated 85 new coats to the youth of McDonald Southeast YMCA on Monday, December 18, 2017.

TCCU held a Coats for Kids Drive from Nov. 1 through Dec. 15 for the kids at McDonald Southeast YMCA. This YMCA serves the greater Fort Worth metropolitan area and will soon move into new headquarters in the Renaissance Square development.

TCCU staff members, credit union members, and board members eagerly met the challenge to provide new coats for the kids. Coats were collected for children from 2 to 18.

Some participants even incorporated the project into their personal holiday events. TCCU board member Ann Farmer hosted a secret Santa gift exchange and encouraged guests to bring new coats to donate to the cause.

“Our children were so happy and excited to receive their coats,” said McDonald Southeast YMCA Business Manager Chandra Toleston. "Your [TCCU’s] commitment and dedication to the YMCA and our children is greatly appreciated."

McDonald Southeast YMCA has been serving the community since 1903. The YMCA will move into their new facility in 2018 and, by doing so, will allow the center to better meet the needs of the growing community. TCCU VP of Operations Shelli McCoy has been working with the Renaissance Heights development group with her yearlong DE project.

The coat drive for McDonald Southeast YMCA was certainly a great way to bring my DE project for Renaissance Heights to a conclusion,” McCoy said. “I was overwhelmed with the generosity of TCCU staff, members, and board members in providing the gift of warmth to a child during this holiday season.”

TCCU’s community involvement with the McDonald Southeast YMCA Coats for Kids project was inspirational in setting the tone for 2018. Beginning Jan. 1, the credit union’s Charity Is Good program, which allows members to round up their debit card purchases to the nearest dollar for donation to a select charity, will direct funds to the Alliance for Children, for the specific purpose of buying winter coats for the youth at that facility. TCCU will match donated funds up to $1,000 to assist in the purchase of the coats in December of next year. Alliance for Children is a nonprofit child advocacy center that assists with the needs of children affected by abuse.
