Tarrant County's CU Collects Soles for Change in Honor of DE Day
Wednesday, June 7, 2017 6:45 AM

Tarrant County CU DE Day

Tarrant County’s Credit Union has placed bins in each of their lobby locations to collect new and gently used shoes for the Soles for Change campaign. Soles for Change is a Credit Unions Care initiative that honors Development Educators (DE) Day on June 14 and simultaneously helps those in need. And you can help too.

DE Melissa Burleson says, "For our DE Day of Service on June 14, Tarrant County’s Credit Union will be partnering with the Tarrant Area Food Bank and working in their quality control environment where we will inspect and sort food items to be delivered to food deserts and other food banks in 13 North Texas counties."

Cornerstone's goal through 2017 is to collect 7,500 pairs of shoes, but through DE Day the goal is 2,500 pairs with the help of all credit unions in the region. Won't you donate your gently used shoes?

How You Can Help

  • Through June 6:  Be an advocate in your credit union by spreading the word and collecting shoes.
  • June 9:  Mail or ship collected shoes to Cornerstone's main office at 6801 Parkwood Boulevard, Suite 300, Plano, Texas 75024. Attn: Soles for Change
  • If you're a DE:  We honor you today! Here's an opportunity to give back the DE way. We would love to see our local DEs pick up and deliver or ship the shoes to Cornerstone (see above).

Join Us for the Sole-A-Bration
If you're in the area, you're invited to our Sole-a-bration on June 14 at 2 p.m. at Cornerstone's main office in Plano. We want to thank everyone for participating in Soles for Change, and we'll share cake, refreshments, and photo opportunities. Shoes will be collected at this time, as well.

But even if you can't join us for the party, you can volunteer in the weeks leading up to June 14 to help us reach our goal of 2,500 pairs of shoes by June 14—and 7,500 by Dec. 31. If you are interested in participating and collecting shoes at your credit union, please contact Staci Zale or Tamra Gaines for more information.
