Tarrant County’s CU Awards $5,000 in Scholarships
Tuesday, May 24, 2016 6:55 AM

Five Tarrant County's Credit Union (TCCU) student members were awarded $1,000 scholarships for the fall 2016-spring 2017 academic year. TCCU congratulates graduating high school seniors Barret Burks, Jacob Willingham, and Sarah Walsingham, and returning college students Jordan Hagerman and Viviana Martinez on their winning essays, and wishes them success on their respective scholastic journeys.

To qualify, the students wrote essays answering the question, “How can your credit union help prepare you to become more financially independent?”

"Tarrant County’s Credit Union started me on my financial independence by offering a way for me to build my own credit score… without being linked to my parents," said Jordan Hagerman, returning student scholarship recipient.

TCCU’s Scholarship Program, established in 2003, offers a helping hand to academically motivated student members, whether they plan to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college or a vocational/technical school. The program has granted a total of 39 scholarships to graduating seniors and returning students.

"Through our scholarship program, we are not just helping our student members meet financial challenges; we are investing in the future of our communities and our credit union," said Lily Newfarmer, CEO of TCCU. "Because, ultimately, we are all people helping people, and if we can help our young people help themselves, all the better."
