Take Your MBL Expertise to the Master Level
Thursday, January 30, 2014 6:30 AM

Time is money, and credit union professionals have little time to spare. Too often, staff must learn by informal, piecemeal training on the job—an approach which allows room for errors. Don't let that happen to you, when the most effective way to become an expert—immersion in comprehensive training and hands-on experience—is a sign-up sheet away. By providing graduates with a certified skill set to perform as junior commercial lending officers, the Member Business Lending Boot Camp will bring invaluable expertise to your credit union.

How invaluable is it? Just ask Devora Mitchell, CEO of WesTex Community CU in Kermit, Texas. Mitchell recently shared with boot camp instructor Bob Hogan what a successful examination they recently had.

"Our examiners were very impressed,” she told Hogan. “They like the spreadsheets I had worked up for all the financial analysis and the risk rating matrix I developed from the information you provided in the boot camp. I could answer all their questions on why we were looking at the things we were, what limits/maximums, etc. we were using, and the fact that I’ve already given my vice president of lending the schedule for boot camp next spring. Thank you for all the knowledge you shared with us. We ended up with an overall CAMEL 1 rating, so I couldn’t be happier. There were times I felt I was learning from a Gatling gun, but I guess it took."

The Member Business Lending Boot Camp, brought to credit unions by the Cornerstone Credit Union League, Louisiana Credit Union League, and the Mountain West Credit Union Association, in collaboration with Hipereon, Inc., is a unique, highly interactive, and intensive program designed to boost your skills to the master level in five-day sessions over a six-month period.
