Space City CU Announces First-Ever Bonus Refund to Members
Friday, January 13, 2017 6:55 AM

Space City Credit Union in Houston, Texas, is pleased to announce its first-ever bonus refund to its members. On Dec. 31, 2016, members who paid loan interest received a 1 percent interest refund to their share account. Also, members who had a checking account in good standing, and who used the rewards program, received more than $30,000 in rewards.

“We [the board] have been talking about it for a while now and decided this year we could do it,” said Craig Rohden, president and CEO. “Credit unions are not-for-profit and should return everything we can to our members. We invested heavily in new technology this year (upgraded mobile app., P2P payments, free credit scores, account aggregation, and more) and pay better than market rates, but we still wanted to give more to our members. Our board is focused on our members, and we hope to increase the bonus every year.”

Chartered in 1965, Space City Credit Union was originally Stewart & Stevenson Employees Credit Union. Now, Space City has $75 million in assets and nearly 8,000 members. Space City serves a diverse group of members in the community, as well as employees of Stewart & Stevenson, GE, Ineos, and Solvay, just to name a few of the more than 75 SEGs.
