Southwest Lending Conference: General Session to Focus on Purpose of Credit Unions
Tuesday, May 7, 2013 6:15 AM

More deposits, lower credit scores and weaker loan portfolios – in tough economic times, the task of maintaining the purpose of a “credit” union can slip through the cracks. In fact, during the last three years, credit unions have been leaning in the direction of becoming “savings institutions.” How can credit unions get back to the state of mind where their purpose was solely to help people and make loans?

Tim Harrington of TEAM Resources will discuss how to return your credit union to its original purpose during the Texas Credit Union League’s (TCUL) Southwest Lending Conference general session, “Putting the ‘Credit’ Back Into Credit Union” later this month.

During the session, Harrington will discuss how credit unions have been too busy taking deposits, collecting loans, handling back office duties and focusing too hard on meeting regulatory changes to keep their eye on their sole purpose – making loans. The session will examine concepts, steps and products that can help your credit union get “back in the game” when it comes to lending and place your organization back in the mind-set of becoming a “credit” union once again.
