SCMS Class of 2015 Foundation Check
SCMS Scholarship Fund Check Presentation to Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation for $90,649

During graduation ceremonies on Wednesday, July 22, the Southwest CUNA Management School graduating Class of 2015 presented a check to the Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation totaling $90,649.55 to fund future scholarships that will help ensure the program’s continued success in its development of the current and future leaders of the credit union movement, as well as providing access to SCMS for all credit union professionals interested in a future in credit union management.

During its graduation ceremonies on the campus of Texas Christian University, class president and Southwest 66 President and CEO Sean Cahill announced the creation of the Pay It Forward Scholarship with the Foundation. The scholarship was developed by the Class of 2015 on day two of their first year in the distinguished three-year program for credit union industry leaders.

"The Class of 2015 is an amazing group of leaders who wanted to leave behind a legacy for Southwest CUNA Management School," explains Cahill. "From day one, [SCMS Director] Janine McBee and John Vardallas [Senior Faculty Strategist and Project Evaluator] instilled in us the desire to leave something behind that no one had done before. We saw an opportunity to do so with the scholarship fund."

"So many of us had benefited from the Foundation in receiving a scholarship to attend SCMS, and we wanted to pay that forward,” continues Cahill. “We are honored to create the Class of 2015 Pay it Forward Scholarship for three years and hope that other classes following us will see the value of doing the same. We are thankful to all of our supporters and partners that helped us achieve the largest single donation to the scholarship fund in the history of the school. Thank you to SCMS, the Foundation, and Cornerstone for all the wonderful things they bring to the credit union movement."

Cornerstone Credit Union League Senior Director of Training and Events McBee, says of the contribution, "Wow! When it comes to leaving a legacy, the SCMS Class of 2015's Pay It Forward Scholarship will be felt for years to come. I am both humbled and amazed by their collective passion and commitment to investing in the future of those who follow in their footsteps and the credit union movement."

"The Foundation is extremely grateful for the passion and dedication displayed by the Southwest CUNA Management School Class of 2015," says Foundation Executive Director Courtney Moran. "What better way to carry out the People Helping People philosophy than to create a legacy and provide opportunities for future students. We thank the SCMS graduates for making a difference in the lives of so many who will follow their footsteps."
