Eight credit union executives from Sicredi, a leading financial cooperative in Brazil, are in their second week of a three-week internship in the Cornerstone Credit Union League region. The delegates are here to learn about the U.S. credit union system.

Maikel Zenkner, director of business for Sicredi Vale do Taquari RS, is interning at Texas Trust CU in Mansfield, and says the experience has been amazing.

“The opportunity to share our knowledge and strategies with one another has been incredible,” Zenkner said. “I appreciate so much the time I’ve been able to share with our host credit union, and the credit unions in the area I’ve been able to visit with. I’ll keep this memory forever.”

Luciane Werner is also interning at Texas Trust CU. She and Zenkner had the opportunity last week to visit with a number of area credit unions, including:

  • American Airlines FCU
  • EECU
  • Fort Worth City CU
  • Unity One CU

They also attended the Fort Worth Chapter of Credit Unions chili cook-off last Thursday. The chili cook-off and bake sale raised nearly $3,500 for the Texas Cornerstone Credit Union League Political Action Committee (TCCUL PAC).

On Monday, they will be attending Catalyst Corporate FCU’s financial management seminar being held in conjunction with its 36th annual Economic Forum in Frisco. Next week, the duo will visit Credit Union of Texas, InTouch CU and Neighborhood Community CU.

FCU, United Heritage CU, and University FCU. This week, both are attending Cornerstone’s Get Stuff Done Conference (GSD) Young Professionals conference in Austin.

Other Sicredi interns include:

  • Rosemari Zamarchi, Arkansas FCU
  • Anderson Aguiar, Communication FCU
  • Marcio Junior Cappellari, Tinker FCU
  • Karina da Silveira Gasper, TruService Community FCU

Joey Griffith, compliance officer with Communication FCU, says their intern has been able to spend time in HR, corporate development and accounting. He has also attended the credit union’s board of directors meeting.

“Over the next two weeks, he will be in our direct lending, indirect lending, membership development, retail operations, collections, and sales management areas,” noted Griffith.

Socially, Anderson has been to Griffith’s home for a barbeque and to watch a football game.

“He has also attended an Oklahoma City Thunder basketball game, toured historic Route 66, and attended Homecoming at Oklahoma State University,” continued Griffith. “He has made many friends while he has been here, and is a welcomed addition to our Communication FCU Family.”

The Sicredi interns were carefully chosen to participate in this customized and targeted learning experience – a key initiative of the World Council of Credit Unions international partnership program between Cornerstone and Sicredi.Governance, economic empowerment, technology, risk management, and social responsibility are among the areas of interest for the interns.
