Eight credit union executives from Sicredi, a leading financial cooperative in Brazil, completed their three-week internship in the Cornerstone Credit Union League region Friday. The delegates were here to learn about the U.S. credit union system.

Sicredi interns Maikel Zenkner and Luciane Werner interned at Texas Trust CU. However, they also had the opportunity to visit the Cornerstone Credit Union League, Catalyst Corporate FCU, and:

  • American Airlines FCU
  • Credit Union of Texas
  • EECU
  • Fort Worth Community CU
  • InTouch CU
  • Neighborhood CU
  • Unity One CU

Sicredi interns Adao Caraciolo and Maroan Tohme divided their time between the A+ FCU, Amplify FCU, United Heritage CU, and University FCU. They also attended the Cornerstone Credit Union League’s Get Stuff Done Conference (GSD) Young Professionals conference.

Other Sicredi interns included:

  • Rosemari Zamarchi, Arkansas FCU
  • Anderson Aguiar, Communication FCU
  • Marcio Junior Cappellari, Tinker FCU
  • Karina da Silveira Gasper, TruService Community FCU

Amanda Keomanivong, marketing assistant with Texas Trust CU, says it was an amazing experience.

“Luciane and Maikel have made quite the impression on me and I’m sad that the internship has ended,” said Keomanivong. “During their time at Texas Trust, I was able to take them to almost every department in our credit union to spend a few hours with them learning about their daily routines and what it takes to make that particular department successful.”

“The three of us have spent a lot of time exploring the area and have had a blast doing so,” added Keomanivong . “Needless to say, they have become lifelong friends and I can’t thank Cornerstone and the World Council of Credit Unions enough for giving us the opportunity to be a part of this program.”

Cathy Semon, chief development officer with Arkansas FCU (AFCU) echoed those sentiments.

“We cannot express how much we enjoyed Rosey being a part of AFCU for the last three weeks,” said Semon. “She was more than willing to participate with enthusiasm at all time. Everyone on our team has commented to me, how much they liked the experience.”

While at AFCU, Zamarchi learned about IT, card services, security, compliance, auditing and HR. She also visited several branches, and attended the credit union’s Leadership Summit, where she also Zip-Lined.

At Tinker FCU, Sicredi intern Marcio Junior Cappellari had a busy three weeks. He toured the credit union’s operations Center, and attended a loan review meeting, as well as an event meeting at the Moore Chamber of Commerce.

He met with the credit union’s IT department, and attended a number of credit union meetings, including senior management, new employee orientation, and the Greater Oklahoma Chapter of Credit Union meeting at the Oklahoma Credit Union House. He has visited several branches and departments including the Enid branch, Crooked Oak branch, Northwest branch, Member Outreach department, Member Service Center, Area A branch, C1 branch, C2 branch, and the Capitol Hill branch.

He was also present when Tinker FCU branch manager Jan Davis was interviewed on Channel 9. Davis was interviewed on the re-building of a branch that was destroyed in the recent tornado.

The Sicredi interns were carefully chosen to participate in this customized and targeted learning experience – a key initiative of the World Council of Credit Unions international partnership program between Cornerstone and Sicredi.Governance, economic empowerment, technology, risk management, and social responsibility are among the areas of interest for the interns.
