Security First Federal Credit Union hosted a flag-raising ceremony on April 21, 2015, when they were officially recognized as a recipient of the Juntos Avanzamos (Together We Advance) designation.

The ceremony was held at a newly re-opened branch in South Pharr, which is located in an area of South Texas that has no financial institutions.

"For Security First Credit Union, the Juntos Avanzamos designation was both recognition and an affirmation of what we do every day," said Security First FCU President/CEO Dan Perez. "It is nice to know that we are part of a bigger movement whose purpose is to try to improve people’s lives. I know that belonging to Juntos Avanzamos will create synergies and win-win situations for everyone involved."

The Juntos Avanzamos designation was created to recognize credit unions that have a true passion for serving the Hispanic market in their field of membership. Juntos Avanzamos was launched in 2005 to publicly acknowledge the valuable work that credit unions do in this area and to empower them to become more successful as they continue to narrow the gap between underserved communities and mainstream financial institutions.

Security First Credit Union is committed to serving the underserved population and is working toward offering credit counseling and small loans as an alternative to payday loans that are prevalent in the area.

Special guests at the event included Cornerstone leaders and Security First Board Chair Norma Davis, board members Xavier Rios and Paula Sauceda, and the Hidalgo High School Mariachi Band members.
