SCMS Recognizes Kloiber and Tabor as Alumnus of the Year
Tuesday, July 25, 2017 6:55 AM

The Alumnus of the Year Leadership Award is presented to an individual who is an active supporter of SCMS and/or the Alumni Association, demonstrates the ideals of the credit union philosophy, and is a recognized leader. This year, the award went to two deserving individuals:

  • Mike Kloiber, president/CEO of Tinker Federal Credit Union
  • Craig Tabor, president/CEO of BluCurrent Credit Union

MIKE KLOIBER
Mike KloiberMike Kloiber is recognized a credit union professional who has provided extraordinary support for the school. His experience in the financial services industry spans 38 years, 29 of which have been with Tinker Federal Credit Union in Oklahoma City where he has served as president and chief executive officer for 21 years.

For his long-standing support and dedication to the fundamentals embodied by the Southwest CUNA Management School, Kloiber was recognized as an Honorary Alum, as well as an Alumnus of the Year.

Kloiber not only understands the “people helping people” philosophy, but he puts action behind those words. He may be the CEO of the largest credit union in Oklahoma, but he is always there to assist every credit union, no matter how large or small to succeed.

In his "spare" time, Kloiber’s resume includes distinguished service on various boards of directors, including the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Midwest Chamber of Commerce, University of Central Oklahoma’s Charitable Foundation, Better Business Bureau of Central Oklahoma, Credit Union Shared Service Centers, the Defense Credit Union Council, the Thrift Institutions’ Advisory Council (serving at the pleasure of Chairman Ben Bernanke and the board of governors of the Federal Reserve Bank), Credit Union Association of Oklahoma, and Credit Union Resources. Additionally, Kloiber chairs the board of the Cornerstone Credit Union League.

Kloiber proudly serves Team Tinker and the Air Force Association’s “Home Away From Home” program, hosting family members of first-term airmen.

This year, Tinker Federal Credit Union is represented by three first-year and three second-year students.

CRAIG TABOR
Craig TaborCraig Tabor is the CEO of BluCurrent Credit Union in Springfield, Mo., and a graduate of the SCMS Class of 1994. He is consistent with his message and true to his word, with a lifetime of leadership for members of credit unions in Texas, Colorado, and Missouri.

What makes Craig Tabor so special? Well, we're going to let some of his staff explain it for us.

“I have personally witnessed Craig displaying credit union values day in and day out. His primary desire is to make a positive impact on our members and the credit union movement, and for each of our staff to be the best person he or she can be.”

“Craig studies credit union innovation and shares this with anyone willing to listen. Under Craig’s leadership, BluCurrent Credit Union has developed its own video conferencing software, and Craig has hosted several local, state, and out-of-state credit unions to benchmark our practices.”

“During our last strategic meeting, Craig invited several area credit unions to participate, collaborate, share our direction, and exchange ideas and feedback.”

“He has traveled to both state and national capitols to visit with congressmen and congresswomen as an advocate for credit union advancement and protection from unnecessary regulations.”

“He has committed to further his staff’s knowledge, spending credit union resources and time on conferences each year.”

“Tabor has championed SCMS with his management team, sending six current employees over recent years.”

“He is supportive of developing his staff, including holding resume workshops on site… knowing that some may be called to serve elsewhere.”

Craig provided accounting support to a local credit union during their CEO transition, and compliance, lending, and management support to another credit union in need. Soon after, one of those credit unions offered vice president positions to BluCurrent’s directors of accounting and finance. This could have tested his commitment to staff development and professional growth; but instead, he counseled and encouraged each person to make a decision they felt would be best for them personally and for their families. In the end, the individuals accepted the new positions. Even with loss of staff to those he assists, Craig continues to share his team and insights with other credit unions.

Cornerstone credit union league extends its congratulations to Alumnus of the Year recipients, Craig Tabor and Mike Kloiber.
