San Antonio State Rep. Joe Farias Resigns Seat
Wednesday, August 12, 2015 6:55 AM

Rep. Joe Farias, D-San Antonio, who announced on June 1 that he would not seek reelection, formally resigned his Texas House seat in a letter to the governor on Monday. The Democrat had represented District 118 in Bexar County since 2006.

“Through consultation with my wife Angie, I have decided not to fulfill my full term, and resign,” Farias said in a statement. “It is my hope to enjoy more time with my family who’ve always been most important to me, but often not prioritized.”

Gov. Abbott will have to call for a special election to fill the seat for the remainder of Farias’ term, which expires at the end of 2016.
