Rep. Henry Cuellar recently met with leaders from credit unions in San Antonio.  His congressional district, running from Laredo to San Antonio, has more than a quarter of a million credit union members.

Currently in his sixth term in the U.S. Congress, Cuellar serves on the powerful House Committee on Appropriations in charge of overseeing the federal budget, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, and the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development.

The group discussed the upcoming elections and the unusual political environment this election cycle. In addition to data security and never-ending additional regulations coming from DC, it was noted that the continuing decline in the number of credit unions and community banks is allowing a greater concentration in the "too big to fail" banks and their power in the financial services market.
