San Antonio-area CUs Participate in 'SA to DC' Conference

The SA to DC Small Business Issues Team Meets with Congressman Lloyd Doggett

San Antonio-area credit unions were represented on the Hill this past week as part of the “SA to DC” delegation. Celebrating its 36th year, SA to DC is an annual conference hosted by the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the San Antonio Free Trade Alliance.  More than 120 of the city’s business and community leaders visited D.C. this year to discuss issues such as immigration, tourism, education, technology and military affairs. 

Alamo Chapter of Credit Union’s Board President Ashley Harris attended the conference and was a member of the Small Business committee, discussing the ongoing MBL legislation with key legislators and committees.  Mark Leita, vice president of corporate relations for Firstmark CU also attended the conference and was a part of the education issues team.

The Alamo Chapter of Credit Unions served as Speaker Sponsor for Congressman Pete Gallego.  During his speech to the SA to DC delegation, Congressman Gallego discussed “Defense Spending, Veterans Affairs and a view from the House Armed Services Committee.”  Local community leaders who attended the conference included City Councilwoman Ivy Taylor (Dist. 2), City Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales (Dist. 5) and City Councilman Cris Medina (Dist. 7) and City Councilman Joe Krier (Dist. 9).

  • Senator John Cornyn
  • Senator Ted Cruz

The conference’s signature event, the Chairman’s Dinner, featured the Air Force Vice Chief of Staff General Larry O. Spencer.  Spencer is the second highest-ranking military officer in the United States Air Force.
