The San Angelo Chapter of Credit Unions again held their annual food drive, and this year's recipient was the Wesley Trinity United Methodist Church's Daily Bread Program.

Conceived in 1984 out of a concern for less fortunate and homeless people, the Daily Bread Soup Lunch Program is among the most successful community outreach programs in the San Angelo District. Its hours are 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and on most holidays, the soup kitchen feeds 175 people or more daily. The average patron eats three or more servings of hot food, as well as cold beverages, crackers or bread, and dessert or fresh fruit.

The church volunteers were excited to see the donations from the San Angelo Chapter, which purchased items from the church's needs list. Pam Burke, the director of the program, said, "This is wonderful. Ola won't need to buy salt and pepper or kitchen cleaning items for a while."

Burke reported that the soup kitchen is on track to serve 58,000 meals for 2016, all of which is done by donations and volunteers.

Chapter President Laura Whisenhunt expressed her thanks to all of the San Angelo credit unions for making an authentic difference. "Another fine example of the Credit Union Cooperative Spirit," she said. Whisenhunt is also CEO of San Angelo Federal Credit Union.
