Resource One Leadership Team and Caring Crafters Donate Warm Wear to School Christmas Store

This holiday season the Resource One Credit Union Leadership Team combined efforts with the R1 Caring Crafters with the goal of helping a local organization. The groups chose to assist Vogel Alcove with donations of warm wear clothing items, which the kids' parents receive as holiday gifts from the school store.

Vogel Alcove helps homeless children by becoming their safe haven during the day providing them with stability, nutrition, wellness checkups, and therapy. Vogel Alcove serves as many as 200 children each day, allowing them to learn, grow, and thrive in a place free from hunger or trauma. While children are in their care, the parents, most of whom are single mothers, have the opportunity to work, look for work, or go to school. They give homeless families a chance to overcome their circumstances and break the cycle of homelessness.

In the winter, Vogel Alcove accepts new clothing and toy donations, which creates a store within the school. All donated items are then available free of charge to the parents of enrolled children. This allows the parents to pick gifts for their children to open during the holidays.

The R1CU Leadership Team collected enough donations from fellow R1CU employees to donate 39 packable jackets, 42 pairs of gloves, and 36 knit hats. The R1 Caring Crafters lovingly handcrafted more than 30 blankets, 50 scarfs, and crocheted baby blankets to donate.

“Our group enjoys teaching, learning, sharing, and caring," said Jan Guynes, of the R1 Caring Crafters. "We had a very generous donation of fleece by our employee, Maria Luciano, which made this donation possible. We hope this helps the families at Vogel.

"Kindness can transform someone's dark moment with a blaze of light," said Leadership Team Member LeAnne Edwards. "You'll never know how much your caring matters. Make a difference for someone today."
