On Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, a deadly tornado touched down in the North Texas area severely impacting the cities of Garland and Rowlett. Nine students and two teachers from Liberty Grove Elementary in Rowlett lost most of their possessions during the storm.

The students of Liberty Grove Elementary coordinated a coin fundraiser to help the students and teachers that were impacted. In Liberty Grove’s “Change for a Change” the students raised more than $2,500 in coins.

In addition to the student coin drive Resource One Credit Union presented Liberty Grove Elementary with $1,000 to assist the students and teachers that were impacted by the Garland and Rowlett tornados. “Helping the people and communities we serve during a time of need is the true meaning of Credit Unions Care,” stated Phillip Crocker, director of cultural enhancement.

Principal Wittrock from Liberty Grove Elementary said, “The Liberty Grove family is in great appreciation of the generosity and partnership of Resource One Credit Union as we support our impacted students. It’s an excellent example to our students that it can be rewarding to give back to those in need.”
