Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX) recently visited Fort Worth City Credit Union to meet with its CEO Ron Fox, members of his staff, and Nancy Croix-Stroud, CEO of First Class American CU.

Williams is the author of HR 3048, the Community Financial Institution Exemption Act, which would exempt credit unions and community banks with less than $10 billion in total assets from new rules and regulations moving forward that are issued by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, unless a majority of those financial institutions are shown to have engaged in an anti-consumer practice.

The bill has 40 cosponsors, including 24 from Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Williams, who serves on the powerful Committee on Financial Services and represents Texas District 25 (Austin), has been an outspoken advocate for less regulation of credit unions and community banks by the CFPB. During the meeting with Fort Worth credit union leaders, Williams discussed a variety of issues impacting credit unions and listened to their concerns.
