Registration Opens for Cornerstone Foundation's 'Train the Trainer' Workshops in 2017
Thursday, November 10, 2016 6:35 AM

Online registration has opened for the Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation's FOCUS Train the Trainer workshops for the following dates and locations:

  • Feb. 10, 2017 – Dallas
  • June 9, 2017 – Oklahoma City
  • July 7, 2017 – Little Rock

These free, one-day workshops are designed to arm credit unions, educators, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders with the skills they need to motivate young people into adopting positive savings and spending habits.

The FOCUS Train the Trainer workshops cover Biz Kid$ and the National Endowment for Financial Education High School Financial Planning Program (NEFE HSFPP). Biz Kid$ is a financial literacy initiative that includes an award-winning TV series, free classroom curriculum, outreach activities, a website, and a monthly online newsletter targeting children 9-16 years old.

Revised in 2012, the NEFE HSFPP is a turnkey financial literacy program specifically focused on basic personal finance skills that are relevant to the lives of pre-teens, teens, and young adults. Organized into six module topics (planning, borrowing, earning capability, investing, financial services, and insurance), the program includes six topical student guides, an assortment of 45-minute teacher lesson plans, and a growing collection of online resources and learning activities.

According to Foundation Executive Director Courtney Moran, there is a tremendous demand from schools, educators, and community organizations for financial education. Credit unions in particular are taking a leadership role with schools across the country to provide this interactive, seven-unit program that covers everything from being a responsible spender to keeping your money safe and secure in a federally insured financial institution.

In addition to providing the three scheduled Train the Trainer events in Dallas, Oklahoma City, and Little Rock, the Foundation will also conduct private Train the Trainer sessions that can be customized for your group. You provide the facility and the people, and the Foundation will conduct the training. A minimum of 16 educators is required for a private Train the Trainer session.
