Registration Available for 2014 ALM Essentials and Implementation Workshops
Wednesday, July 16, 2014 6:40 AM

The dates are quickly approaching for the Cornerstone Credit Union League and ALM Resources 2014 ALM Essentials and Implementation Workshops.  These provide an excellent ALM training opportunity for both those new to the credit union movement and for seasoned professionals who simply wish a refresher in ALM fundamentals.  ALM, interest rate risk, and liquidity management continue as priorities during the examination process and all are addressed in these sessions.

ALM Essentials provides an overview of the ALM process. The goals of ALM are addressed and ratios are presented to assist credit unions in achieving and monitoring those goals. Essential elements of decision making including market based pricing of deposits and loans and expense analysis and control are also on the agenda.

ALM Implementation provides tools to assist credit unions in refining their ALM process. Discussion includes appropriate measurement of interest rate risk, developing adequate ALM and Investment Policies, measuring and monitoring liquidity, and performing effective due diligence on brokers and dealers.

“We are amazed that, after some 25 years, we continue to have requests for these hands-on ALM workshops,” says Deborah Rightmire, vice president of ALM for the Cornerstone Credit Union League.  “They offer an excellent opportunity for new staff, board and ALCO members, or students of Southwest CUNA Management School to enhance their ALM understanding and application. We encourage credit union staff and volunteers to check their calendars and take advantage of the ALM Essentials and Implementation workshops in their area.”

Led by Rightmire or Howard Bufe, assistant vice president of OnBalance, these workshops are scheduled for the following dates and locations:

  • Aug. 5 and 6, Credit Union House, Oklahoma City, Okla.
  • Aug. 12 and 13, Generations FCU, San Antonio, Texas
  • Aug. 19 and 20, GECU, El Paso, Texas
  • Sept. 9 and 10, MemberSource CU, Houston, Texas
  • Sept. 16 and 17, Oklahoma Central CU, Tulsa, Okla.
  • Nov. 12 and 13, Arkansas CU Association, Little Rock, Ark.

Offered at $249 per day or $475 for both days, there are no pre-requisites required so all staff and volunteers benefit from these cost effective offerings.  Certified Public Accountants may earn continuing education credits for both sessions.  Grant assistance is also available through the Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation.
