Register for Texas GAC to Affect Bills Impacting CUs; Early Bird Deadline Jan. 23
Tuesday, January 17, 2017 6:35 AM

Texas GACThe 2017 Texas Credit Union Association Governmental Affairs Conference will be held at the Driskill Hotel in Austin on Feb. 15. Early bird conference and hotel registration for the GAC has been extended to Monday, Jan. 23. Cornerstone has reserved a block of hotel rooms for the night of Feb. 14. Register now to get the discounted rate.

State and federal credit union CEOs, directors, and management should plan to attend. Each bill filed in the legislature could impact the cost of operating your credit union or the products and services you can deliver to your members, so you'll want to be part of the discussion.

More than 1,500 bills have been filed so far in this legislature and thousands more will be filed by March 10, many of which will impact the operations of both state and federal CUs. There will be legislation impacting the process and policies of opening new accounts; bills relating to data security breaches and credit/debit card fraud; the home equity lending law; prize-linked savings accounts; priority of liens; property taxes; public funds deposit authority for CUs; elder financial abuse; and protection of collateral seized in non-consent tows or held in vehicle storage facilities.

There are also bills to increase the leave employees must be granted for family care, a bill to improve notice to lienholders on cancellation of insurance, and bills to reduce the size of signage prohibiting guns on credit union property.

During the Texas GAC, credit unions will be briefed and hear from speakers on the status of legislation impacting CUs on Wednesday morning. In the afternoon, attendees will go to the capitol to meet with their lawmakers to discuss the issues that will affect their credit union.

Registration and more information can be found on the Cornerstone Credit Union League website page here.
