Red River CU Partners with Community to Make Food Drive a Success
Thursday, December 10, 2015 6:55 AM

Red River CU Food Drive

The employees of Red River Credit Union and Texarkana community members joined together in a food drive for Harvest Regional Food Bank. Along with KSLA TV station, Red River and its members brought in a total of 1,950 pounds of food.

Camille Winkle with Harvest Regional told Red River and KSLA that the food brought in during this one-day event will feed families supported by the food bank for approximately one week.

Red River CU decided to partner with KSLA for this drive by accepting donations prior to opening and after the close of business. KSLA and Red River employees were on hand to accept donations so that donors didn't have to get out of their vehicles.

“We felt this one-day food drive would be an excellent opportunity for the staff and community to support a worthy organization in the area," said Patricia Cunningham, marketing director for Red River Credit Union. "Since Harvest Regional Food Bank supports families in a 10-county radius, we are sure it’s helping the communities we serve and possibly some of our members."

Cunningham went on to say, "Each $1 donated to Harvest can provide five meals; therefore, the funds that were donated this day from the community will definitely make a huge difference."

One in six persons in the Texarkana area are suffering from hunger and one in four are children. Red River hopes to make this food drive with KSLA an annual event.
