The Employee Morale Committee at Red River Credit Union conducts various fundraisers throughout the year, including a Summer Jeans program. During June, July, and August the employees who wear jeans donate $3 to the committee, which decides each year which local charity or organization to support. For the past few years, they have chosen small organizations that do not receive funding from a larger source like United Way.

This year, the committee selected the Jim Hudson Foundation, named in memory of Judge Jim Hudson, a tireless advocate for children in the Texarkana, Arkansas, area. His endless commitment to and support for children was well-known.

“We decided to choose the Jim Hudson Foundation because they provide a small suitcase for each child pulled from their homes and placed in foster care," said Brittaney McGuire, RRCU Morale Committee chairperson. "Many times, those children come with only the clothes they have on at the time. The suitcases are filled with clothing, basic hygiene needs, and a few personal items to comfort the child.”

“After the loss of Judge Hudson, we decided to name our Sunshine Room after him,” said Patti Dean, president of the Jim Hudson Foundation. “The Sunshine Room is used for parent/child visitation when the child has been removed from the parental home and placed in foster care.”

The donation from RRCU this year will be used to help purchase Christmas gifts for the children currently in foster care. A check for $1,325 was presented to Patti Dean and other members of the Foundation.
