Red River CU Donates Life-Giving Water to Shelter
Monday, June 18, 2018 7:00 AM

Cases of water donated by Red River Credit Union are stacked inside the Randy Sam's Outreach Shelter.

Red River Credit Union continues the celebration of its 75th anniversary through donations of items to various charities and organizations each month. Most recently, the Texarkana-based credit union partnered with Randy Sam’s Outreach Shelter to provide bottled water to their residents for the summer.

After making a tremendous impact in 2017 with a bottled water collection based on the shelter's urgent need, the credit union chose to do it again and this year delivered 2,500 bottles of water to the shelter.

Many of RRCU's members donated water, as well as money to purchase water. The bulk of the donations came from RRCU employees who wanted to wear jeans at the credit union. On two separate occasions each employee brought a case of water that enabled them to enjoy wearing jeans for a day.

RRCU also took 75 individual care bags for the residents. Each bag contained bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash (or soap), and hand lotion. Many of the bags also included razors, toothbrushes and toothpaste, mouthwash, feminine products, and hand sanitizer.

“The water donated makes an enormous difference in the lives of those seeking our services," said Jennifer Laurent, Randy Sam's executive director. "As temperatures rise and heat-related illness becomes more of a threat, the bottles of water are the first line of defense for our residents. We are so grateful for this donation.”

“RRCU is committed to our communities, and we're extremely happy to give water and hygiene items to the Randy Sam’s Shelter in Texarkana," said Brad Bailey, RRCU president. "We pride ourselves in not only helping our members with their financial needs but also in supporting the communities our members live and work in. Our employees really stepped up and were the ones who were instrumental in making this happen.”
