Thursday, January 26, 2017 6:55 AM

The deadline is approaching for credit union leaders and supporters to purchase their sponsorships and tickets for the 29th annual National Credit Union Foundation Dinner Presenting the Herb Wegner Memorial Awards. The dinner will take place on Feb. 27, 2017, at the Marriott Marquis in conjunction with the Credit Union National Association Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C.

Sponsorships and tickets are available online at ncuf.coop or by mail with the deadline of Feb. 3, 2017, to purchase.

“You don’t want to wait any longer to ensure your spot at this year’s event,” said Gigi Hyland, executive director at the National Credit Union Foundation. “Tickets and sponsorships are going fast for what many refer to as the ‘Academy Awards’ of the credit union movement. You'll experience an unforgettable night of entertainment where you’ll be moved and inspired by this year’s Wegner Awards recipients.”

The awards ceremony celebrates the highest national honors in the credit union movement. The 2017 honorees are:

  • Outstanding Individual Achievement: Stan Hollen, retired president/CEO of CO-OP Financial Services;
  • Outstanding Individual Achievement: Maria J. Martinez, president/CEO of Border Federal Credit Union; and
  • Outstanding Program: The Cooperative Trust from the Filene Research Institute.

The dinner will once again be held at the Marriott Marquis located directly across from the Washington Convention Center. Denise Gabel, CEO of the Northwest Credit Union Association, will be returning as the evening’s emcee.

Whether attending the dinner or not, members of the credit union movement and other affiliated organizations also have the opportunity to recognize and congratulate award winners through a congratulatory message to be shown on the video screens during dinner.

About the Herb Wegner Memorial Awards
The awards are named in honor of the late Credit Union National Association CEO Herb Wegner, whose tireless dedication, innovative ideas and deeds truly revolutionized the ways that credit unions serve their communities.  The awards that bear Wegner’s name recognize his spirit of “innovative, creative, risk-taking” leadership.
