ProfileXT Help CUs Match Personality to Job
Thursday, July 25, 2013 5:50 AM

The Unemployment picture is looking better in many parts of the country. In Oklahoma, for example, the unemployment rate is 5.2 percent. In Texas, it’s 6.5 percent and in Arkansas, 7.3 percent. As employers seek to fill positions left vacant for a long period of time because of the recession, as well as create new positions to support their growth, Kim Jones, HR consultant with Credit Union Employment Resources (CUER), says personality profiling can help ensure the best hire the first time around.

“Bad hiring decisions can cost an organization considerable time and money. It can hinder productivity and hurt employee morale,” notes Jones. “By utilizing tools such as the Profile XT, credit unions can be more effective in matching a prospective employee’s personality to the job they are seeking, as well as to the credit union’s culture.”

In the following Q&A, Jones explains what the Profile XT is, and how this HR tool can be of value to credit unions.

Question: What is the Profile XT?
Jones: Profile XT is an HR assessment tool made available to credit unions through CUER. It measures how well a prospective employee fits a specific position within your organization. The “job matching” feature of the PXT is unique, and it enables employers to evaluate an individual relative to the qualities required to successfully perform in a specific job.

Question: How does the ProfileXT assessment work?
Jones: A prospective employee will answer a series of predetermined questions, and their responses will reveal in-depth and objective insight into their thinking and reasoning style, relevant behavioral traits, and occupational interests. The great thing about this tool is that the assessment does not need to be monitored, so the candidate can take it from any computer with Internet access. The system instantly scores the assessment and informs the hiring manager(s) where they can access the results.

Question: Why does an employer need this type of tool?
Jones: Given the opportunity to secure a new position or to be promoted, people may tell you what you want to hear instead of the truth. Personality assessments help employers select people who have the highest probability of being successful in a role. It also offers practical recommendations for coaching them to maximum performance. Personality assessments provide organizations with consistent language and metrics to support strategic workforce and succession planning, talent management and reorganization efforts.

Question: Are personality assessments legal?
Jones: Not only are personality assessments legal, but organizations large and small are leveraging this HR tool to help recruit and retain the best talent.
