Wednesday, July 17, 2013 7:50 AM

The National Association of Credit Union Supervisory and Audit Committees (NACUSAC) has awarded Robert Butler, a PrimeWay FCU board of director, with the Golden Service Award in honor of outstanding service to the credit union industry. The award has only been bestowed once before in NACUSAC history.

This honor is given to an NACUSAC committee member who is a great example of a credit union volunteer. NACUSAC Chairman Gary Dunning commented, “Bob is one of the most friendly, upbeat people you will ever meet. I speak for the entire NACUSAC Board when I say that is has been a pleasure serving with him.”

Butler has served as a credit union volunteer since 1971 and has been on the Board of Directors since his election in 1977. He has been a guiding force for the last 42 years. After a 31-year career with Southwestern Bell, Butler retired and started his own business. In his commitment to his community, he has served as vice president of the Houston Jaycees, vice president of the Optimist Club, and chairman of NACUSAC. Not only has he served his community, he has also served his country. He was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for Valor for his service to the U.S. Army during the war in Vietnam.

“Mr. Butler’s time and expertise on the Board have been an instrumental part of PrimeWay’s growth and success,” said Annette Zimmerman, president and CEO of the credit union. Ernest Luker, PrimeWay chairman of the board, added, “On behalf of our membership, I want to thank him for his many years of dedicated service. His knowledge, talents, and leadership have been a great asset to the credit union.”

When asked about his 42 years of service to PrimeWay, Butler commented, “When you work with the best people at the best credit union, time flies.”
