'Pretty in Pink' - Alliance FCU CEO Sports a Tutu for a Good Cause

Duane Jones - Alliance FCU

Alliance FCU (Lubbock, Texas) CEO Duane K. Jones might have gotten lost in the crowd of some 5,500 runners/walkers, in the Oct. 5 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event in Lubbock, except for the fact that he was adorned in pink, including a pink tutu.

“Our staff really wanted to get more involved in the community, and they suggested we participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure,” recalls Jones. “So I challenged them. If they would raise $500, I would run the race in a pink tutu.”

Staff didn’t just raise $500. They raised about $1,380. Not one to go against his word, Jones not only wore a pink tutu, but he accessorized with pink tights, large pink glasses, pink suspenders and a pink tiara.

“Staff did a phenomenal job, almost tripling the amount for which I originally challenged, so of course I was going to keep up my end of the bargain,” he said.

The event was covered in the local newspaper, and Jones shares the story behind the pink tutu with Lubbock Avalanche-Journal readers.
