People’s Trust Federal Credit Union celebrated the raising of the “Juntos Avanzamos” (Together We Advance) flag on Friday, Nov. 14, at its Galleria Branch. The flag signifies People’s Trust’s commitment to serving the Hispanic population of Houston. The honor, bestowed on credit unions by the Cornerstone Credit Union League, is earned through a rigorous application and review process during which a credit union must demonstrate the capacity, commitment, and compassion to serve the Hispanic market’s financial needs.

In her address at the flag raising ceremony, president/CEO of People’s Trust, Angela McCathran, said, “By receiving this designation, it symbolizes our commitment to the well-being of the Hispanic market in Houston, and I commend our staff on a job well done in preparing for this endeavor. We take great pride in our work within the community and have high aspirations for serving the needs of the Hispanic consumers in our community.”

Research has shown that the city of Houston will continue to grow into a more diverse community with Hispanics composing over 50 percent of Houston’s population by the year 2040. People’s Trust strives to improve the financial condition of the Hispanic community through the delivery of affordable financial services and financial education programs, specifically targeted towards the Hispanic population. Being a part of the Juntos Avanzamos family means that People’s Trust:

  • Offers bilingual services and information
  • Collaborates with Hispanic organizations in the community
  • Offers affordable products and services that fit Hispanics’ needs

Cornerstone CEO Richard Ensweiler said of People’s Trust’s designation, “The Cornerstone Credit Union League is delighted to recognize People’s Trust Federal Credit Union with the Juntos Avanzamos designation. Juntos Avanzamos, meaning Together We Advance, is a Hispanic outreach program designed to empower credit unions to support and serve the Hispanic market with financial services specifically designed to meet their needs, while ensuring Hispanic members have access to mainstream financial services that allow them to escape the grasp of fringe financial providers. Earning Juntos Avanzamos is just another example of People’s Trust’s steadfast commitment to the community, its members, and the financial success and growth of individuals in the Houston market.”
