Operation Stocking Stuffer: A Success for First Community CU
Monday, January 4, 2016 6:55 AM

First Community Credit Union came to the aid of more than 2,500 families when they sponsored and participated in Operation Stocking Stuffer with the Houston Fire Department. This was First Community's second year to sponsor the Houston Fire Department's Operation Stocking Stuffer event.

In addition to collecting hundreds of toys at the credit union's 18 locations, they First Community received financial donations of $838.

Prior to the kick-off collection period, First Community sent their elves, along with Houston Fire Department personnel, shopping for $5,000 worth of toys.

Dozens of PODs were filled with toys that had been separated and bagged according to age and gender. People lined up days before the distribution started to make sure they were able to provide for their children. The hundreds of bikes that were donated were gone within the first hour.

Credit union staff were pleased to help the communities they serve in the Greater Houston Area. Melinda Storrs, VP business development at FCCU said, “It was a very successful day. The children’s eyes just lit up when they received their bag of toys. It felt good to give back to those in need.”
