Opening Day Scheduled for Tinker FCU Branch Destroyed by Tornado
Monday, January 27, 2014 6:45 AM

Tinker FCU’s Moore Branch will reopen at 400 S.W. 6th Street today. The branch was destroyed by an EF5 tornado that hit Moore, Okla. on May 20, 2013. Since then, rebuilding and returning to the Moore community has been a top priority for the credit union.

With the goal of rebuilding as soon as possible, Tinker FCU began debris removal and demolition within days after the tornado, and construction was under way within 62 days. The new building features an updated floor plan, maximizing on space and including the same number of offices, teller windows and drive-thru lanes.

The new branch will also feature a monument made from a recovered section of the safe deposit box vault where 23 people took shelter during the storm. The monument will display the original building dedication plaque and an etched inscription to pay tribute to the lives saved and the spirit of Oklahomans in times of need.

“We are all so happy to be back home and in the community,” said Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager Jan Davis. “We are absolutely thrilled to reopen, and it is so apparent on the faces of all of the employees here.”

As part of the celebration, TFCU will offer free commemorative coins to members on opening day. Moore/TFCU T-shirts will also be available to purchase for $15 each. Proceeds from the T-shirts will go to TFCU’s Shelter Moore Kids fund, which will help provide storm shelters for Moore Public Schools.
