Online Registration Opens for TCUL Volunteers’ Forum
Monday, April 15, 2013 7:30 AM

The Texas Credit Union League (TCUL) is accepting online registrations for its popular Volunteers’ Forum June 19-21, at the Hilton Palacio del Rio in San Antonio.  Credit union volunteers - including the board of directors, supervisory & audit committees, and other committee members are encouraged to register by May 24 in order to secure the best rates for the conference and hotel accommodations.  CEOs, CFOs and members of a credit union’s management team will also find value in this conference.

This year’s conference features a pre-conference workshop: Making Heads and Tails of CU Volunteering.  Presenter Chad Stanislav, vice president of Financial & Technology Resources, Inc., will guide board members and supervisory committee members through basic duties, ratios and how each role is vital to the credit union. Various areas of the credit union from top to bottom will be discussed and explored.  Participants should bring their December 31, 2012 financial statements.

Following are just a handful of the educational sessions available to conference attendees:

  • Supervisory Committees: Succeed in Today’s Tough Regulatory Environment: Featuring certified public accountant Ron Parker, this informative session brings committee members, new and old, up to speed on latest regulatory issues and concerns.
  • Future Effective CU Boards - Recruiting/Retaining/Revitalizing Next Generation of Directors: John A. Vardallas, TheAmericanBoomeR, explores methods for identifying, recruiting and retaining credit union volunteers including an overview of the roles and responsibilities and succession of board members.
  • The Culture of Ethics: Featuring Barry Thompson of the Thompson Consulting Group, LLC, will provide attendees with practical training techniques they can use to help ensure their credit union consistently behaves in accordance with ethical standards.
  • Your CEO is Leaving…Now What do You Do?: Credit Union Employment Resources’ Susan Looney and Chris Thomas will covers ways to plan for expected and unexpected departures.  Participants also learn how to build a profile of a new CEO, how to handle internal candidate, how to handle interviews and ways to make a decision.
