Tuesday, October 1, 2013 5:45 AM

One Source FCU CEO Bob Peterson was interviewed last week, for a video that will be live streamed tomorrow from the Credit Union House, as part of the national Don’t Tax My CU Rally. Credit unions can watch the rally live starting at 1 p.m. Central Time, at

In the interview, Peterson explains that meeting the financial services needs of the community – particularly Hispanics and new immigrants - is a top priority for the credit union.

“Eighty-two percent of our population in El Paso is Hispanic,” Peterson says. “As a Juntos Avanzamos credit union, we are demonstrating our commitment to the financial needs of Hispanic families.”

Juntos Avanzamos or Together we Advance, is a Hispanic outreach program of the Cornerstone Credit Union League. It is given only to those credit unions that have demonstrated that they the infrastructure in place to serve the market. One Source FCU received the designation in 2012. Peterson, who serves on the League’s International Relationship Committee, played an important role in helping to develop the Hispanic outreach program.

In addition to Peterson, members of the Armendariz family were also interviewed, and shared their story of how One Source FCU has helped their family achieve their financial goals.

The Cornerstone Credit Union League encourages credit unions to watch the Don’t Tax My CU Rally Oct. 2, at 1 p.m. Central, at

The host of tomorrow’s rally is Paul Berry, an award winning journalist and radio and television personality in the Washington D.C. area, who you will recognize as the long-running emcee of the CUNA Government Affairs Conference.

The rally will also feature appearances by a number of CUNA staff, outside experts and coalition partners, League and credit union leaders, and most importantly, credit union members from across the country telling their stories. Speakers will participate in person at Credit Union House, via recorded video, and remotely using video conferencing.

The principal focus of the rally is to encourage credit union advocates to contact Congress via email and social media -- and to ask that Congress "Tweet us back" statements of support for the credit union tax exemption. The "Tweet Congress" link on will feature pre-loaded messages to that effect.
