OnBalance: Board Succession is Critical for Your Future
Wednesday, May 1, 2013 6:45 AM

Preserving the tradition of excellence within your leadership should always be in the forefront of your mind. The better the board of directors, the bigger the impact it makes on the success of your credit union.

An effective board:

  • Thinks strategically
  • Maintains awareness of the environment
  • Is committed and engaged
  • Continually strives to improve

Each board member contributes to the legacy of the credit union. Succession planning for your board is creating a foolproof plan for your future, which means you will be able to:

  • Have a board that embodies all of the critical competencies you feel are important,
  • Always have qualified candidates available for service on your board,
  • Have a seamless transition when director openings occur, and
  • Preserve your tradition of excellence.

Credit Union Resources’ OnBalance is pleased to announce a new service credit unions can utilize to enhance the performance of their current board and identify future competencies necessary to address the needs, growth and performance of the credit union.

According to Karen Houston-Johnson, this new service - utilizing a web-based tool - will allow OnBalance consultants to guide your board through a step-by-step process to create a clear map to your future board. OnBalance is collaborating with Yvonne Evers of YME Coaching & Consulting, LLC to make this tool available to credit unions.

Evers has served on the board of the University of Wisconsin CU for many years and is the developer of the web-based tool that OnBalance will be using to help your credit union identify and plan for the skillsets needed to secure a well-qualified board capable of leading the credit union into the future.

“I’m confident that our new Board Succession Planning service will help revolutionize the succession planning process,” says Houston-Johnson.
