Oklahoma hosted a successful Governmental Affairs Conference in Oklahoma City at the Credit Union House last week. Credit union employees from around the state came to the conference to learn about the current political and legislative landscape and how to get more involved in advocacy on a state level.

On March 24, attendees also heard from former Gov. Brad Henry about his time in office and how much his life changed during his term as well as afterward. Over 160 credit union employees attended the Century Club Dinner at the Phillip’s Pavilion in the Governor’s Mansion. Attendees were surprised by a visit from current Gov. Mary Fallin and enjoyed a short talk from her.

Guest speaker Keith Gaddie spoke after dinner about "Why Red and Blue Polarize You: The Politics of Doing Nothing." Gaddie is a professor and chair of the political science department at the University of Oklahoma.

Dinner attendees also bid on items during the OCUPAC silent auction, which raised over $2,000 for the Oklahoma Political Action Committee.

On March 25, conference attendees enjoyed breakfast with state legislators and made visits to their legislators' offices to inform them about the importance of credit unions in Oklahoma. A total of 94 credit union staff attended the conference this year.
